Florence Nightingale

Another Florence - very confusing! This week we have enjoyed learning all about Florence Nightingale and her impact on hospitals today. The children watched this video...

...before going on to retell Florence's story in their own words. Some of their work was AMAZING and I shall be displaying it outside the classroom soon.

The children then went on to do some junk modelling this afternoon. Two houses made this hospital showing what it was like before Florence arrived. Can you see the sick soldiers, messy floors, rats and spiders?

The other two houses made the hospital after Florence had made her changes. Can you see their cleaning equipment, the happy soldiers in their beds and the nice clean floors?

Fantastic effort by all and some awesome team work as always. Well done Orange Class.

Florence from Malawi

Today, Orange Class had a very special visitor - a teacher, called Florence, all the way from Malawi. The children were so excited to meet someone who came from another country and who spoke English as a second language and it was an incredibly valuable experience for them. They children asked Florence some really well thought out questions and listened very carefully to her answers. Every child made Florence feel welcome in our school and took time to thank her when she cooked us a traditional dish from Malawi (nsima). I felt so proud of all of the children today - we really are lucky to have such a respectful group of children in our school.

Father's day play morning

This morning we said thank you to all of our lovely father figures by hosting a play morning with bacon rolls. The children loved showing off their school and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces as children and adults played together on the field and in our woodland area. Here are some photos, have a fab weekend!

Smoothies & teddy bear's picnic

This week, the children made healthy smoothies. First, they learned all about the different food groups and why it is important to eat a good balance of food types. They then planned their own balanced lunchboxes and a designed a smoothie from a choice of ingredients. They used coins (linked to our maths this week) to buy tokens for what they would need before using what they had bought to make their smoothie. Most of us liked our smoothies, but we definitely all liked making them!

Here we are...

We also had our teddy bear's picnic this afternoon for earning our last class 'awesome point' - very well deserved and it was an absolute joy to meet all your lovely teddies (I know the class teddies loved meeting some new friends!) 20 points to go for our class disco!

This is Finlay!

Have a lovely weekend all :)
